WHITE MESAS |
I few years ago a lovely women walked into Mountain Artists Gallery and fell in love with this painting. She took it home and found that special spot on her wall. I had a new collector and new friend. She and I began to sing together in the church choir and had an occasional outing...... and a slow and steady friendship developed. She collected many wonderful and way more famous artists than I.... Rothko, Dali, Chagall and than there was little unknown me.
She liked my work every bit as much as those famous artists.
Her husband became very ill and had to move to a care facility and her finances became tight. No more art buying........ She would still love to look at art and attend art openings, and ask me how my art was selling.

LEAVING EDEN |
Than one day this last October during the open studio tour this lovely lady stopped by. She fell in love with another painting. She decided even though things were tight she wanted to give herself an early Christmas present, so we worked out a deal and she bought the above piece.
I saw her a few days ago and asked her how she liked her painting, and she confessed that she had not hung it yet, it had become to difficult for her to do such things. I offered to come over and hang the painting and have a cup of coffee. You see this lovely lady lives in a retirement center, and doesn't get out as much as she would like. Things that use to be easy have become difficult and her husband's care has put much stress into her life.
She offered me lunch, I didn't want to impose.....but she said........ "it isn't often that I can eat with someone". So I stayed and we had tomato soup. She told me how much she loved her tiny cozy apartment and all the beautiful wall art that she collected. These paintings had become her friends. They kept her company and brought beauty and joy into her life. I was so honored that my art was there for her, bringing her joy and sending my love.
It gave me a new perspective on the possibilities that art can bring to a person. Art not only is beautiful to look at but it heals the soul, warms the heart, and keeps a person from being lonely. This lovely lady was content at home with all her artists and their work.
I feel so blessed to be an artist that brings joy to a shut-in or spurs a memory of something beautiful in ones life. What could be a better occupation.
